Of course, I didn't even notice this missing chunk until I was home~
I thought I could just pry off the rest of the veneer, but no such luck! After googling "How to get off peeling veneer" I learned that this does the trick pretty well!
I just layed a cloth down first and ironed over the top in little sections. That heated up the glue under the veneer and allowed me to chip and pull the rest off. Still, a big pain, though! Ugh!
BTW, it might be a good idea to NOT use the good iron like I did. That first shirt that gets ironed afterwards just might have an interesting scent! Oops! :)
After sanding, I primed it with this wonderfulness~
I love this stuff, especially in the cold wintertime when I would much rather paint inside where it's nice and warm!
On a recent trip to Lowe's I also found this adorable pink paint in the Oops section. I already have a couple cans of pink paint, but how can a girl pass up a deal like this?
This paint is from their Olympic line that is also low odor and 0 VOC~ yea!
After a couple coats of pink paint, it was glazing time!
Sharon, over at Elizabeth and Co. is one of my favorites. She does a lovely job transforming furniture pieces (and she herself is a sweetie pie)! On several of her pieces she has used white glaze, and it always looks so dreamy! I thought I'd give it a try. Sharon shares her tips on how to apply glaze here.
I was out of white paint, so I just grabbed a little sampler of Ultra White at Lowes to mix into the glaze.
These pulls came from Hobby Lobby. I had to buy them when they were half price because they are spendy little suckers, but so danged cute!
I was going to use and then feature this little tool my husband uses to clip the backs of pulls for me so they don't stick out too far inside the drawer.
He wasn't home when I had the urge to test it out, so I tried it myself and ended up doing this~
I basically knawed off the end and then snapped the top part off. So...ya...I'm going to go ahead and wait until my husband gets home to do the rest, I think. :)
I finished off the vanity with a coat of this~
Before shot~
Pink deliciousness~
The drawers were lined and mod podged with this pretty paper from Michael's~
Glazing details~
I hope this ends up in some sweet little girl's room!
*Update~ It did! :)

I love it!! I'm so in love with pink right now and this turned out fabulous!! I like the white glaze too.. nice alternative to the darker glazes! Good job!!
that looks adorable! i love the pink on it- so sweet. i have used the iron trick too and have learned that it works with some glues, but not all... which then is a real pain! i love that primer, too- it's all i use these days unless there is bleeding.
Love, love, love!!!The color and the knobs are perfect together. And you always have great information and how tos.Love the paper liner.
Look at you go! I think I might just like the pink one more then the blue. Only becuase I rarely get away with pink in my house full of boys :)XO
This is so dang cute! I wanted to say, I love, love, love it...and I see I'm not the only one :) And the knobs just send it up a notch!

oh i am so jealous you have such cute finished projects i love the hardware
Wow, Kim! I love everything about this project! It was a great find to start with and then you worked your magic to make it absolutely gorgeous! I love how you share details of each step - so well done. And the white glaze, well what can I say - perfect! Thank you for the kind words. I am touched and I so appreciate your friendship!
I love the color, the knobs, and how you distressed it. Kudos to you for tackling the veneer. That is not a job I would do, but it looks like the effort was well worth it for you.
I just love this project! Do you put the glaze on the whole project or just where you want the white to show? Love it!
You've made it really hard for me to decide which desk I like more. Beautiful hardware on this one! Love the white glaze, too! She is pretty in pink!

Another fabulicious creation. Some little girl is going to be so happy to have this.
We love this! The knobs are so cute. We found you on Shabby Nest. Thanks for sharing!
Kim, I think this is my favorite piece yet! I also love Sharon's white glazing. Thanks for the tip on those long hobby lobby screws. (I've found it doesn't take much to pop off knobs from HL. I usually pop them off and reglue them.) Really, this one is a show stopper.
Knew you were up to something since I haven't seen you in a while. I just love, love, love this desk. The knobs are perfect, oh how I wish there was an HL around here. Funny, I was googling the same thing as you about veneers and the minute I saw the iron come out in your pic I knew that was what you were up to. This is just too pretty!
Adorable in pink. What a great save.
I love the pink. I had a little vanity like this growing up. I remember buying it with my mom at a thrift store and spending hours stripping, varnishing it, and painting it. It was so special to me. I wish I still had it.
Oooh, this is beautiful...and I've just had a lovely time browsing through your other projects too. I'm beyond impressed!
I'm your new follower!

What a beautiful and precious desk...I love it. It is delicate. I like the paper you choce to line the drawers with, too. Nice job...glad to hear I am not the only one laboring away in a basement or garage (AKA dungeon!).

That is the perfect shade of pink! Can you share the color? And again, the way you line the drawers is such a special touch.
I also prefer to use paste wax. I think it is so much easier to work with and protects furniture well.
looks amazing. i just did a desk just like it for my daughter. stop by and check out my give away, and starting weds i'll be doing a link party.

so neat.... ummm do you happen to have any of that veneer still hanging around? I have a vanity, chest of drawers and bed just like that.. it was my grandmothers and I would love to have some of the veneer to replace the missing spots on hers. I will gladly pay you for it and pay the shipping etc
