A Funky Chair Pair

These two sad chairs have been sitting in my garage all winter~

After a nice sanding, a spray of Kilz, and another light sanding, they were ready to go!

I sprayed on a coat of peacock blue ("Caribe") from Home Depot.

Next, they got a heavy distressing with 60 grit sandpaper (80 grit works great, too).
After that I went over them with a finer grit sand paper to smooth it out.

I glazed with RL black glaze mostly by just brushing on and wiping some off with a damp cloth~
The glaze relaxed the blue just the right amount!

After two coats of poly, the painting part of this project was in the bag!

This fun fabric at Hobby Lobby was the perfect match for recovering the "new" chairs.

I used a 40% off coupon I found online from HL to buy a staple gun that I was going to need for my first recovering project. :)

There are so many tutorials on recovering chairs, and I am so not qualified yet to give one, so I think I'll leave it at that.  I will say it was simple to do!

Here's a before of the chairs again~

Here they are, all glammed up!

While my husband does not fully appreciate the awesomeness of the "crazy" zebra stripes, I guaranteed him sum teenage gal S gunA lov em! :)

*As a side note, Mike and Melanie over at The Frosted Gardner are giving away a $50 Home Depot gift card as a thank you to their 1,000 followers.  They do amazing furniture transformations~ head on over and check them out!  :)

Great job Kim! I love the blue, but you already know that. And that zebra fabric is such fun! I have some chairs in the garage waiting for a makeover. You've inspired me to get busy on them!

I love the shape of the chairs! Even though I'm more of a pastel girl, I love the blue you used, and best of it it could match so many decors. I'll admit I'm not so crazy about the zebra print, but that's just personal taste. Somebody else *will* love the fabric and have to have the chairs before someone else takes them!

I can't believe that you and Ms Frugal Face have redone the same chairs. I loved the chairs when I saw them on your blog and I couldn't believe it when I saw the same chairs show up tonight on the Shabby Chic Cottage linky party.
I loved them in black too.

You are a brave woman! I totally envy you. I have my basic fall-backs that I tend to use over and over. Color? Until someone buys me a box of crayons, I only see red, black and white. I admire your style!

So, I see you everywhere I link up, and then I see your list of link-ups here, and I guess I see why. :) I thought I might as well stop in and see what you have here. FUN STUFF!! Looks like you keep super busy here. I know how you feel. I home-school, blog, and try to do some fixing up stuff as well. Yeah, and that's why I'm linking up at 1 am, and then planning on going out on the porch and polyerthaning when I am done here. :) Gotta get it done when we can, right. (Oh, and my husband wouldn't be too thrilled about the zebra chair either, but I LOVE THEM! :) ) Have a nice night, and I hope you get lots of great results from linking up at SNS: nice to be one of the firsts, isn't it? I think that was my first time to be first EVER!!!! :)

Very cute, love the color and print! I've got some blue paint almost that same color leftover from my son's room that I never though to use on furniture and a chair I was going to redo anyway, so I'll have to try it out. Thanks for the inspiration!
