This is a cute pair of side tables I found on Craigslist~
After a quick wipe down, I painted the base with one coat of Paris Gray Chalk Paint. Then I did a little distressing with my sanding sponge.
The chalk paint distresses so effortlessly, there really is no need for heavy duty sand paper.
When I applied the clear wax, the gray darkened up a bit. It looked so pretty I wasn't sure if I should add the dark wax.
But I did, and it really added a richness to the tables.
I stripped the tops with this eco friendly stripper from Sherwin Williams~
The regular price is stinking expensive, but it was 40% off when I bought it, so I got a screaming deal!
I stained the tops with a mixture of Early American and a touch of Dark Walnut.
I always try to go as dark as I can with the top and still match the color of the wood that is peeking out from the distressed base.
The top was finished with three coats of tung oil~
Just a reminder of the before~
Here's the after pictures. It was a gray, rainy day, so they kind of blend in! :)
Wishing you some sunshine today!!! :)

I love the combination of the gray with the natural wood tops - really pretty!
Those are such pretty pieces. I've never tried the dark wax on the Paris Gray so it was fun to see how lovely it worked with it!

Love these Kim! You have such great style!
These are lovely! I think it's tricky to get the gray to look right with the wood (maybe that's just me), but you did it beautifully!
Looks good. How do you like the tung oil compared to wipe on poly? I have been using a lot of grey lately, I like it!!
The tables are lovely! Love a stained top with painted base. I saw another comment asking your opinion on tung oil vs wipe on poly. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Another well-done project!!! I am always amazed at how you seem to know what stains and paint colors to use just by looking at the piece/pieces and visualizing them completed. I love your creativeness.

Extremely gorgeous! Your tops look beautiful!
Just a beautiful job! Thanks.
Hi, I just found this blog and was wondering if you could answer a question for me on DIY distressing... I'm a newbie to this game, but want to give it a go.
1. Why chalk paint? How is that different for distressing purposes than regular matte paint?
2. What is the purpose of using wax after painting/distressing? Is wax the last step?
Thank you soooo much for your advice! I'm hooked on your blog :)
I love how the bottom of the little tables are grey but the top is brown wood.
