Pink Desk and Chair

This desk started out looking like this at the thrift store.  It was very similar to the one in my very first post.

After sanding, it got a nice coat of primer.  Then it was time to use my new spray gun for the first time!  It worked fantastically!  The color I used is Laura Ashley Pale Peony.  I got a whole gallon of it for the price of a quart because they were out of quart sizes.  I know, how could a paint store be out of paint, right?

The desk looked awesome~ pink, wet paint gleaming in the sun, but, well.... what happened next can be read about here.  All I'm saying now is that the poor desk took a terrible tumble and wound up in the furniture ER~

I didn't have the heart to take a picture of the FRESHLY painted, WET desk lying face down in the driveway.  It was ugly!

Of course I had to re-sand, re-prime and re-paint the top and a few other places.  When it fell down, one of the drawers got broken, so I had to fix it, too.  My husband says you can never have too many clamps.  He might be on to something.  :)

After the ordeal, this is how the desk looks today!

I lightly distressed and then used Minwax Paste and Finishing Wax.

The hardware was primed and then got a shot of this~

I just put the hardware in a little box and sprayed it outside.

At Hobby Lobby, I came upon the most adorable pink wrapping paper to line the drawers with!  It matched perfectly! It has various buildings from Paris, sweet little birds and postage stamps on it.

This paper is really cool because the back has a grid to make measuring and cutting a snap!

All finished!  The best part today is when Zach said, "I like it, Mom!" and then crawled under the desk to pose for a pic!

This little $7 chair came from Goodwill.  I thought I would paint it pink to go with the desk.  It was in near perfect condition until I backed over it as we were leaving Goodwill.  Yep, that's right.  I set the chair down by the trunk so I could get my daughter in her carseat.  After loading her up, I hopped in the car and backed up.  I could hear a scratching sound, but couldn't figure out where it was coming from.   Poor chair!  Here is the before, complete with parking lot distressing as can be seen on the left front~

The chair got the same treatment as the desk.  Can you see the little blob on the chair?

Really, Bug, you had to do that right there, on my freshly painted chair???!!!

Here it is today, with the desk!

I also painted these little peg hooks I got at the thrift store for $.25 each to go with the set~

Pink is so much fun! :)

Great stuff Kim! I like the idea of spray painting the hardware. I have some really ugly pieces that could use a couple quick shots of paint!
Thanks for stopping by my blog, too!

This looks great! How did you line the drawers? Did you use mod podge or just lay it in the bottom?

Cathy,
I agree, it is a little more tricky with the wrapping paper. I thought I'd do a little post tomorrow about what works for me! :)

Oh my! I think I'd have cashed it in after it's 'accident'. Kudos to you for starting all over! It's just darling!

Oh, and the bugs. Bugs and, in my house, dog hair. I swear every thing I've ever painted has a strand or two of my dog's hair. It's my trademark now ;)

Would love for you to stop by this weekend and link up to Passion for Paint.

Hi there- I love how the darling pink desk and chair came out and your story is too cute! The bug- seems like they love fresh paint just like they love lightbulbs, the desk falling over- been there, and backing up into something at a sale- oh yeah... done that too. The finished product looks amazing though, you should be proud- they are darling! Thank you for joining Feathered Nest Friday and sharing this~ nice to meet you!! :)
